I've Been Quiet Lately

Not blogging much, I know. So here's a bit of a brain dump post. Last Tuesday, I flew to Kansas, just like I have done since I moved to Texas. I didn't visit as many people as I usually do. In fact, other than the in-laws and the nuns (all considered family), I only visited with 1 person, that I haven't seen in years. I basically took my time in KS this year to try and destress. It helped quite a bit. I've been getting very forgetful and scatterbrained lately, and I think the stress of J's upcoming deployment, and not knowing any details (still) was really getting to me. My time in KS was relaxing and I didn't worry so much about everything that we don't know yet. I spent a whole day with an old friend from college that had moved back to that area. It was great. I met her little girl who is just precious, and we just caught up. The great thing is that she grew up an Army brat, so she understands the Army talk and lingo. I don't have to explain thi...

Back On The Chain Gang

Ok, not really, but back home. I spent a week in Maryland for my BFF's wedding. It was fan-freaking-tastic! The greatest part was that Misty (the BFF), Alison (the third corner of our triangle) and I were together again. We haven't been together in, oh, 9 years? Something like that. Yeah. Long time. Together, we have the Catholic School Teacher, the ex-Mormon Whedon geek, and the Heathen. Yeah, that last one is me. We make quite the team. We balance each other out rather well. I also saw Misty's mom, sister, brother, and 5 nieces. Wow. The wedding was fun. A simple ceremony outside, then a relaxed, horror-movie themed reception inside. It was fun. We danced, we talked, we ate, we drank. Then we cleaned up, and Al and I crashed in my hotel room. I also kept up my training while out there. First was a 3 mile run on Friday. SUCK. It also happened to be the most humid day during my stay. I only ran maybe 2/3 of it. Since the wedding was Saturday night, I didn't ev...

Updates on: Camping, Running, Blogging

I need to mush these into one post. Item 1: Camping Didn't go so well. The river we were supposed to be on is completely dry. The nearby national forest is completely closed to the public. J was cranky. We ended up coming home a day early. But then we biked to the PX for lunch and a movie and had a decent day. Today we worked in the yard after a morning run and brunch. Item 2: Running After talking to J, I've decided to change my half marathon goal. He says your first half marathon is always the worst, and trying to do the TransMountain as my first is pretty much asking for hell on earth. However, he would like to run the  Duke City Marathon again. He ran it 2 years ago. And as with most marathons, they have a half marathon as well. Hell, Duke City has a half marathon walking category. It's October 23 in Albuquerque, NM. Don't know why it's called Duke City. Maybe it explains on the website somewhere. It benefits the New Mexico Cancer Center. So, new race t...
