Nose To The Grindstone (Or, Thoughts While Drinking A Beer)

I am working so much right now. Pretty much every day. My one day I have guaranteed off is spent catching up on errands and cleaning house. I see my friends off doing adventures and exploring and I feel jealous.  But then I think of how guilty I often feel when I do those adventures, knowing that it’s not my own money I’m spending.  Example - I need new summer clothes. Not only do I not have time and energy to go clothes shopping right now, but I feel bad spending our main income on clothes. But my money from my job is easier to spend on that stuff. So I ordered myself a Stitch Fix, and if I like the whole box, and it all fits, I can keep the whole box. No worries.  I also need some new workout shoes. Although that does require time and energy to go find some shoes, or at least find shoes online that I know will fit, I feel better getting them when I know it’s my own money, from my job, that I’m spending on them.  Am I a penny pinc...

Been A While...

I know, I haven't written much lately, but I kinda feel like writing right now. So here is a general update. J and I are getting into a schedule. He's working, but not pulling late nights *knock on wood.* He gets to do his own PT and loves that. He gets up early to run, bike, or swim a few days a week, and we hit the gym twice a week. He'll work out over lunch sometimes, and of course on weekends. I'm trying to run, of course, and hitting the pool once a week or so. Like I said, I'm hitting the gym twice a week with J now. And that means the weight room. He's showing me how to use the Hammer Strength machines, which are like a machine/free weight combo. We do a few things with dumbbells and yesterday did incline sit ups. I feel good when we go, even if I'm sore the next day. When it's nice enough and not too late, we ride our bikes to the gym, which works as a warm up. I even tried a spin class. It was exhausting, but I could feel that certain musc...

Viva La Vivo

Better late than never. I am more in love with my Vivobarefoot Neo shoes. Need a reminder? They are holding up well. That gray edge around the blue is stitched down, and I think that's helping hold it together better than previous shoes. I've done both short and long runs in them and I'm still in love. They are very comfy.  So! Long runs were good in these shoes. I did my last half marathon in them. I had a couple blisters on the tips of my toes, but not as many as I've had previously. My feet were tired, but not overly sore. I did get my black toenail back after the half marathon. Since then, I've tried one of those special lacing styles that's supposed to help pull the shoe up so it won't rub on the nail. Don't know if it's really doing any good yet. I did notice that I lace these suckers really tight. You almost can't see the tongue when I lace them up for a run.  I've done a couple short runs without socks now as well. I...

Oh Yeah! Shoe Review! (Vivobarefoot Neo)

I found a great deal on the Vivobarefoot Neo from the Clymb  (if you want to sign up, ask me and I'll send you a referral!). Vivo is a brand I've been looking at for a while because they have a lot of zero drop minimal shoes. I got them and of course tried them on right away. J even got to help me pick the color, which it seems they don't make anymore. Glad I got my blue! I really wore them first for our FRG holiday party. On my feet most of the day and no soreness. They slip on easily and fit wonderfully. Lots of room in my toes, nice and snug on the heel. They are more of a cross training shoe and just a running shoe, and have a simple design that looks cute for everyday wear. I have worn them for 2 short runs now (3.5 miles) that each included some walking (stupid cold and laziness). But the shoes have been amazing. No hot spots. No discomfort. Feet feel great. They don't pick up pebbles and thorns like my New Balance do. They have a removable insole, which som...

New Kicks

Decided to try the New Balance WT00s and see if the fabric holds up better. They are comfy and a great color. I tried on their road shoe also (this is the trail shoe) but the store guy said the road shoe sole gets torn up easily and he wouldn't recommend it for running on dirt, which I do. First run will probably be tomorrow morning. I'll post again if I have any issues. As you can see, Rem seems to approve.
